In 2023, the population aged 65 and over accounted for approximately 15% of the total national population. Population aging presents significant challenges to medical security, health services, chronic disease rehabilitation, long-term care for the disabled, and economic security. Nursing homes, as areas with high concentrations of elderly residents, often face situations where a single caregiver must look after multiple seniors simultaneously. With a large number of disabled or mobility-impaired elderly residents, caregivers are frequently required to assist them with rising, turning over, getting out of bed, and rehabilitation exercises—tasks that involve repetitive, long-duration bending and lifting.
